Before you start: get everything ready
You register only once a year and an entry cannot be edited after it is submitted, so prepare all the information before you open the form.
- A valid passport, with its number, issue date and expiry date.
- A photo that meets the rules for you, your spouse and each child you list.
- A full mailing address, an email address you can actually reach, and a phone number.
- Your education or work experience details.
Step 1: use the official website only
Official registration takes place on dvprogram.state.gov during the announced entry period, usually between October and November. Check that the address ends in .gov to avoid imitation sites.
Step 2: enter your details exactly as in your passport
Write your first name and family name in English, spelled exactly as in your passport, along with your date, city and country of birth. Even a small difference can cause trouble at the interview.
Choose the "eligibility country" carefully, and list your spouse and unmarried children under 21 even if they will not travel with you.
Step 3: upload the photos and review the entry
Upload one photo per person and check every field before sending. If you are unsure about a photo, check it first with our free tool.
Step 4: save your confirmation number
After you submit, a confirmation page shows your confirmation number. Save, screenshot or print it: it is the only key to your result later and is hard to recover if lost.
Questions and answers
Can I edit my entry after sending it?
No. Review all the details and photos before you press submit.
What if I accidentally submit more than one entry?
Only one entry per person per year is allowed, and duplicates can disqualify all of your entries.
Can I use a service to apply for me?
You can apply directly on the official site, or use an independent service like ours to review the details and submit with your consent. Using one is optional and you stay responsible for the accuracy of the data.
