Is the US Diversity Visa lottery free? Official fees and service costs

What you actually pay to register for the DV lottery: the official fee if there is one, the cost of independent services, and the fees nobody should ever charge you.

Last updated:

What is the official registration fee?

Official registration on dvprogram.state.gov carries a government fee of $1, which is non-refundable and paid online on the official site when you submit. You can apply yourself directly and pay only that fee.

What do you pay if you use an independent service?

Using us is optional. Our service fee is 5.000 JOD for reviewing your details and photos and submitting the entry, plus the official government fee of $1 that we pay on your behalf, so you pay 5.710 JOD in total, with the full breakdown shown before you pay.

Fees nobody should charge you

Do not pay in these situations; they are signs of a scam:

  • Money to learn the lottery result. Checking the result on the official site is free.
  • Fees to "guarantee" a win or "increase your chances". Selection is random.
  • Fees to "confirm a win" in an email or WhatsApp message you did not ask for.

What about visa fees later on?

If you are selected and complete the process, there are visa and processing fees paid directly to the official authorities and only at later stages, according to the official instructions. They are not paid at registration or to any intermediary.

Questions and answers

Can I apply myself without paying a third party?

Yes. Applying directly on the official site is open to everyone, and using an independent service is entirely optional.

Does paying a service raise my chance of winning?

No. Selection is random and nobody can influence it. A service only reduces the chance of disqualification because of mistakes in the photo or details.

Is checking the result free?

Yes, on the official site with the confirmation number, and nobody is entitled to charge you for it.
